The Emerging Technologies Initiative (ETI) is a collaborative effort launched by the New, Emerging and Strategic Technologies (NEST) Division in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA), and the Science Policy Forum (SPF) on August 31, 2020. The initiative aims to accelerate India's technology intensity in new, emerging, and strategic technologies.
Vision
The ETI seeks to understand, analyze, and anticipate the impact of disruptive, futuristic, emerging, strategic, and critical technologies on economies, employment, security, social equity, and global relations. It identifies forward-looking opportunities and recommends policy choices to inform global technology governance rules and standards.
Objective
The ultimate objective of the ETI is to identify technologies of importance and relevance to India and develop feasible roadmaps to indigenize them. The initiative aims to:
Assist in recommending policy choices
Inform negotiating capacities vis-à-vis global technology governance rules and standards
Identify technologies for indigenization
Develop road maps for implementation
Participation
The ETI is open to:
Indian citizens
NRIs/PIOs
Multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional teams
-Research and scientific community in India and the Indian Diaspora
Indian Start-ups/Industry
Implementation
The initiative will bring together representatives from Ministries, trade bodies, and accelerators to interact with select teams and facilitate the operationalization of suggested roadmaps. The NEST Division in MEA, PSA's Office, and SPF will serve as the synapses for this initiative.
Outcome
The strategy reports developed through the ETI will be presented to stakeholders in GOI policy-making organizations as an input towards Atma Nirbhar Bharat.
